As we enter Week 8, the teachers are busily preparing the student Semester 1 reports. This first semester report will provide grades, work habits and attendance information. Rather than general comments we are prioritising Parent/Teacher Conferences for every family. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss your child’s progress, their strengths, challenges and future areas of focus. If you haven’t already done so, please go onto the Compass portal to book an appointment. If you have any problem booking, please contact the front office and we can help you to do so. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are unable to attend so an alternate time or phone conversation can be arranged.

Some sad staffing news for St Gregory’s but exciting for Mrs Maryann Tarrant is that Maryann has decided that it is time to retire at the end of this term. Maryann has been working at St Gregory’s Primary School for the past 30 years and has devoted over 46 years to Catholic Education. I can’t thank Maryann enough for her dedication and care of the student’s, families and staff of St Greg’s over the years. She is looking forward to spending time with her husband Greg, children Zac and Sarah, grandchildren and her mum. Maryann has many deep connections in our community after supporting students and families in the role of Learning Support Teacher for the past 24 years and having worked as a classroom teacher prior to this. I am sure you will join me in wishing Maryann all the best for her retirement.

It has been another busy fortnight of sport with students participating the school Athletics Carnival which was a great success. I thank those parents who helped on the day and the students from Mackillop college without whom we would not be able to run such an event that includes all students from Years 2 to 6.  There has also been a number of students participate Mackillop Cross Country, and touch football and many who will be participating in the Northern Region Athletics carnival this Friday. I congratulate all these students on their sporting prowess and for being good sports.

Thank you to all families who supported our ‘Soup-a-Hero Day’. The students enjoyed dressing up and our community donated an enormous amount of soup for the needy in our community which was awesome. Such a fun way to make a huge difference for others less fortunate than ourselves.

Yesterday we celebrated the feast of The Most Holy Trinity. The trinity, one God in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, is the central mystery of our faith. God is love and love is relational, something we can share with one another and the whole of creation. Saint Augustine described the Trinity as God, the Father is the lover, Jesus is the beloved, and the Holy Spirit is the love that binds them. We are called to be this love for God in our lives for others, to love others as God loves us. This week we pray that filled with God’s Spirit we will be ready to share God’s love with others.

Dear God

May we receive your love with open hearts and

allow your love to flow through us to those in need.

May you lead us not only to know the truth, but to live it deep in our hearts.

To know that you call us into a relationship of love.

And because we are immensely loved by you that we in turn are called to love others.

May we remember this truth every time we make the sign of the cross.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE 

Thank you to all of the parents that have been busy updating their child's reading records on the NSW PRC website. 

We now have  166 students registered for the challenge and 79 have already finished.  

Please remember that it is NOT a competition and there is still plenty of time to register and complete it. 

NB: The end date has now been extended and now does not close until 26 September (Week 10, term 3). 

ALL students that complete the challenge will receive a certificate towards the end of term 4.

LAMONT BOOK FAIR

We are welcoming Lamont Book Fair to St Gregory's in weeks 9 & 10. 

The book fair will be open to students in week 9 to have a preview of the books on offer and then the book fair will be open to parents & carers in Week 10: 

Mon 30/06 and Tues 01/07 

from 08.30am to 9.30am

AND

from 2.30pm to 4.30pm  

During the preview, students will be allowed to browse the book fair and then write a "wish list" from which parents are welcome to pre-order some books.

If you choose to pre-order some books, then the payment is to be completed online (this includes inputting your child's name, grade and what books they want). 

Your child then returns to school with their wish list and collects their book/s from the librarian. 

The exact instructions will be on the back of the wish list. 

EFTPOS and cash payments will be accepted for direct purchases on Mon 30/6 and Tues 01/7 only.
